Hackathon at The Science Museum
The Brief
The client wished to host a two-day, overnight Hackathon for 600 people in a totally unique venue in central London.
The Venue
After thoroughly research London’s more unique venues, our team identified the Science Museum as the perfect location to host the event. The Hackathon was going to be a large endeavour as it was to take over several rooms of the Science Museum, both during the normal opening hours and overnight which was a first for the museum.
We hired the Flight Gallery, Engineering Your Future, IMAX, Imax Foyer, and Basement for three days; this covered an initial build day and then two days for the main event. Our team carefully designed each space, ensuring that the specific brand guidelines set out by the client were adhered to. To achieve this, we utilised CAD drawings to prepare appropriate layouts for all of the rooms, completely redesigned them as well as the layout of the museum features.
Inside the museum, we created two main hacking spaces, a presenting area, rest room, and numerous boardrooms within one larger room. AV and branding were added into each event room when needed. But as the client had specific requirements for the furniture and endless visuals, a range of concepts were created to ensure we hit the spot. However, as the requirements were so specific our team had to source and purchase many of the furniture elements instead of hiring them.
The Science Museum decided to let the best caterers on the market compete for the chance to create a bespoke menu for the 48-hour 600-person Hackathon event. The winning caterer then designed their menu with the theme of the event in mind.
As the Hackathon was so large in size we needed to bring in a range of specific technologies, including endless power points as well as external WIFI to tend to the needs of the attendees. Additionally, event hostesses, human signage and security helped guests quickly move between rooms while navigating the large venue.
